ODE TO A FISH

Current mood: guilty

Oh Speedy Gonzales,

You were a good fish.

You greeted me every morning, like a puppy,

You reminded me to pay attention,

And you kept me company during my most stressful times at work.

Blowing bubbles in the water.

Slapping your tail against the bowl,

You left a happy impression deep in the hearts of everyone here.

You will be missed.

I am so sorry.

In the crazy hubbub of my own selfish life, I neglected you poor fish.

I forgot that although I think tap water simply tastes bad…

For fishies, tap water is deadly.

But is it right for a fish, to rely on chemicals to survive… is that really living?

They say that fish live short lives,

But you were still strong and healthy after over a year on my desk.

They say that fish have short memories.

So perhaps you have already forgiven my mistake.

Oh fishy-boy!

Perhaps now you will be able to truly swim free.

All of your fishy companions who did not last as long as you did, will be there with open-fins…

Waiting to swim with you into fishy-heaven

Speedy Gonzales… you were a good fish.

And I am glad of our time together in this world.

Swim on little buddy. Swim on.
